Bourgeois Mystics, featured on GigTown Radio, is a powerhouse mix of funk, jazz, rock, and bluesy goodness. Based in Austin, TX, the band likes to call themselves, "Austin's premiere Basement Monkey Dance Funk experience." While being technically proficient, the band has a mad, entertaining flow to their songwriting.
On the song, "Eureka! Cigarettes," while it is smoky in the beginning, it then becomes a bombastic rock session, then transitions to an easy listening section, and then back to the funky head. This group knows how to switch between multiple styles seamlessly and genuinely. Also, the jazzy saxophone and trumpet accentuate the soulful blend they already have going for them. Yes, this is a band with truly, incredible talent.
Austin does have a number of bands on which this group could fit the bill, such as Foot Patrol, Kiddoo and The Dude, and Hard Proof. It is great to see the circle is growing bigger for funk fusion and innovative acts. The Bourgeois Mystics will turn heads with their tongue-in-cheek humor, exceptional guitar playing, and the overall suspense of what is to come next.
